Bendigo Amateur Boxing League Title on the Line
Ryan Polglaise will fight for the Victorian Amateur Boxing League’s light heavyweight title on Saturday night in a four-round contest against Jake Kavanagh. The 16-year-old boxer from Bendigo has been training at the Bendigo Fight Centre for less than two years and has undergone significant weight loss and improvement in his punching power. Polglaise’s dedication to his craft has been praised by his trainer, Lucas Allen, who says the young boxer has made an amazing transformation since starting training. “It’s been an amazing transformation by Ryan since he first started boxing,” Allen said. “He has worked incredibly hard to bring his weight down and has a lot of power in his punches.”
Polglaise’s motivation for starting training was driven by wanting to lose weight and become fitter, and he has found that boxing has helped him with discipline and focus. “I enjoy doing the work, and competing is an incredible feeling,” he said. Polglaise will face Kavanagh, who is also from Bendigo, in a rematch of their previous bout, which Polglaise won. The Bendigo Boxing Championships #2 will be held at Truscott Reserve in Eaglehawk’s Murdock Street, with a card of at least 15 bouts, including championship matches for Elsie Tuitupou, Ryan Polglaise, and Luke McKenzie. The event will feature a range of boxers from Bendigo and surrounding areas, including “Kid Dynamite” Zack Bingham, who will be making his debut. Bendigo Fight Centre will also have Linden Tuitupou competing in a cruiserweight bout against Jake Dunstan, and Una Zheng will face Reanne Brandie. Other matches will include a super welterweight bout between Jordan Boag from Bendigo FC and Nick Fiske-Kaly, and an exhibition match between Robert Hopley and Robert Friswell. The event will be held at 5.00pm, with general admission standing tickets available at the door from 4.00pm.
