The Myton Hospices’ Heavyweight Support

Lewis Williams, a 26-year-old professional boxer from Leamington, has thrown his weight behind The Myton Hospices with the appointment of a professional boxer as its ambassador. The Myton Hospices has hospices in Warwick, Coventry, and Rugby, and Lewis’ association with the charity started in 2023 when his dad was cared for by the Myton at Home team. From Heartbreak to Heroism
Lewis’ association with The Myton Hospices began when his dad, Bob, was diagnosed with a lung and heart condition in 2020. The condition worsened in late 2023, and the Myton at Home team visited Bob three times a day to care for him in his home during his last month with his family. Lewis has spoken highly of the care provided by the Myton team: “The Myton team were brilliant with dad and they couldn’t have made it any easier for us or him at what was an incredibly difficult and emotional time. But what means the most is the time they gave us with dad.” He recalls the moment the Myton team entered their lives: “I was due to compete in a tournament when Myton got involved, and one of the nurses had a boxing background and he knew what I was going through. He pulled me aside and told me that time was running out. He didn’t tell me to miss the tournament but he was honest about what was happening. So, I pulled out of the tournament and stayed at home with dad.”

Lewis has set himself the ambitious challenge of raising £1million over the course of his career, with the goal of raising £20,000 over the next year. This target could fund one month of specialist nursing care, which Lewis believes is a worthwhile cause to support. To achieve this goal, Lewis has set himself the challenge of raising £20,000 over the next year, which could fund one month of specialist nursing care. Lewis’ approach to fundraising involves a variety of events and challenges. He hopes to raise this total through these challenges and events, which he has titled ’20 in 25’. This initiative aims to raise awareness and support for The Myton Hospices.

A Personal Message from Lewis
Lewis added: “Boxing rules your life, you miss birthdays, weddings and funerals, training is everything. While it was a hard decision in some ways to miss the Olympics, for me it was a no brainer – I’ll always have a career but I will only get one dad. I owe my boxing journey to my dad, he was the one who took me out of Scouts and into the boxing gym, and he was an inspiration even when he was very ill.”
