For instance, if a boxer from the United States was a member of USA Boxing, they would be eligible to compete in the 2028 Olympics. However, if a boxer from the United to States was a member of the International Boxing Federation, they would not be eligible. The IOC has also stated that only athletes who were members of their national boxing federation at the time of the qualification events could participate in the 2028 Olympics. For example, a boxer from the United Kingdom who was a member of the British Boxing Board of Control would be eligible to compete in the 2028 Olympics, while a boxer from the United Kingdom who was a member of the World Boxing Federation would not be eligible. The key to understanding the eligibility criteria is to recognize that the IOC is not just looking for athletes who are members of their national boxing federation, but also those who are members of the World Boxing Federation.
