Boxing earns spot in Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games says IOC Sport

Boxing’s Road to the Olympics

Boxing has been a staple of the Olympic Games since the modern Olympic Games were first established in 1896.

“We are excited to bring our sport to a wider audience and to provide a platform for boxers to compete and grow their careers.”

The Birth of World Boxing

World Boxing, the governing body for the sport, was established to promote and develop the sport globally. The organization aims to provide a unified platform for boxers to compete, grow their careers, and access better training facilities and resources. With the launch of World Boxing, the sport is expected to gain more recognition and popularity worldwide.

  • Improved training facilities and resources
  • Increased access to competitions and events
  • Enhanced career opportunities for boxers
  • Greater recognition and popularity of the sport
  • A unified platform for boxers to compete and grow their careers
  • World Boxing is committed to providing a safe and fair environment for boxers to compete.

For instance, if a boxer from the United States was a member of USA Boxing, they would be eligible to compete in the 2028 Olympics. However, if a boxer from the United to States was a member of the International Boxing Federation, they would not be eligible. The IOC has also stated that only athletes who were members of their national boxing federation at the time of the qualification events could participate in the 2028 Olympics. For example, a boxer from the United Kingdom who was a member of the British Boxing Board of Control would be eligible to compete in the 2028 Olympics, while a boxer from the United Kingdom who was a member of the World Boxing Federation would not be eligible. The key to understanding the eligibility criteria is to recognize that the IOC is not just looking for athletes who are members of their national boxing federation, but also those who are members of the World Boxing Federation.
